Handdrawn to Silkscreen with Trinity Pote

Thursday Evenings in October, From 6 to 9 pm

130$ per student

During this four week course, Thursday evening course (October 2, 9, 16, 23) you will explore turning an original sketch of yours into your very own screenprinted artwork! This class will focus on traditional (non-digital) approaches to creating screenprints, alongside acting as an intro to anyone who hasn't done much (or any) screenprinting before! We will be creating a 3 to 4-layer screenprint that's on 9”x12” paper size.

Taught by Printmaker and recent BFA graduate (24’), Trinity pote. Having a Printmaking degree from KCAI, trinity has been lucky enough to have been printing since high school. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge after 8 + years focused on printmaking.

Students will learn basic knowledge and applications of screenprinting. Students will be led through creating and finishing a multilayer print. Planning colors, editing a series of prints and a possible print exchange ( if students are interested) are all outcomes of this course. Students will learn to, by hand, transform a sketch into a final print. This class is suited for intermediate printers to beginners.

Open to all skill levels, at the end of this class you will leave with an edition of 9x12” screenprints of your own creation. We will aim for 3 layers, 4 layers depending on students individual skill level. An edition is multiple prints of the same image.

A print exchange will happen for students interested in a trade.

Tools and Materials will be provided, But please bring a sketch already prepared at a 9x12” size for us to get ready to start turning said sketches into screenprints!

Evening One: Look over students pre-drawn sketches. Learn how to turn said sketch into screenprint layers ready. A brief overview of screenprinting & a demo on how to coat screens. Finish your remaining layers for the following evenings

Evening Two: Tearing down paper, and learning how to register prints. Students will also start mixing colors for their images and have a brief discussion on color theory. We will plan to print at least the first layer of every students print this class session.

Evening Three : Finish any color mixing and work through students other print layers. You will start to see your images coming together! Some students may or may not finish their prints this evening.

Evening Four : Final touches and print party! Students who need to finish their will. Students will learn how to sign their prints and do any trimming if necessary. A print exchange will happen at this time for those interested

Fee : $100 + $30 lab fee. Fees cover ink, emulsion, paper, and other consumables and tools.
