In this four week class we will be learning the fundamentals of black-and-white film photography

and darkroom printing.

Whether you’ve never touched a film camera or you’'re returning to analog photography after

years away this class offers a welcoming introduction to the magic of the darkroom.

Throughout this course, you will gain hands-on experience with the complete analog process.

From understanding your camera and exposing film to developing negatives and creating

archival darkroom prints. You’ll learn how to load film, process it by hand, make contact sheets,

expose photographic paper under an enlarger, and experiment with contrast, dodging, and

burning to create expressive final prints.

Class times: 8/8, 8/15, 8/22, 8/29 from 1:00pm-3:00pm

Afternoon 1:

Introduction to Film Photography

● Camera basics and exposure

● Loading and shooting black-and-white film

● Darkroom safety and workflow

● Taking photos with creative direction

Afternoon 2:

Developing your Negatives

● Learning about darkroom chemistry

● Hand-developing film

● Washing a drying negatives

● Evaluating negatives

Afternoon 3:

Introduction to Darkroom Printing

● Making contact sheets from negatives

● Using an enlarger

● Test strips and exposure

● Making your first prints

● Contrast filters and basic print adjustments

Afternoon 4:

Refining & Finishing Prints

● Dodging and burning techniques

● Final Printing and troubleshooting

● Print washing and presentation

● Group Presentation and celebration of completed work
